Bearing Impregnation Procedure

  1. It is best to use only dry, never impregnated sintered bearings. Your existing bearing supplier should be able to provide these.
  2. Completely submerge the dry bearings in a small Pyrex type 500 ml. beaker filled with impregnation oil.
  3. Slowly heat the beaker to 80 °C (176°F), and maintain for 3 hours.
  4. Let the beaker / bearings cool down over night to room temperature.
  5. Drain the oil by pouring the oil and bearings through a wire mesh screen or strainer and allow the bearings to sit on the screen for an hour. Note: Never allow the now impregnated bearings to contact a porous surface such as cardboard or paper. This would draw out some of the oil from the bearing. If they have to rest before assembly into the motor, put them on a non porous surface such as glass or plastic.
  6. This procedure should result in a 95 - 98% impregnation of the bearing pores.
